Pilates Mat Exercises

Monday 26 May 2008 @ 10:25 am

In the early 1900’s, Joseph Pilates introduced Pilates Exercises. Unlike other exercises, these Pilates Exercises only makes use of a mat and not machines. For this reason, it is called Pilates mat work. There is varying feedback from those who have tried it. Some think that it is effective and great, while others have a hard time doing the workout.

If you want to have stronger and firmer abdominal muscles, lower back muscles, and abs, then you should at least try Pilates Mat Exercises. Since it does not involve any machines, you are to perform a lot of body movements that will eventually strengthen your muscles. Also, it consists of programs that will allow you to lose weight and unwanted body fat. This may be very challenging at first but it will be all worth it after you have seen the great results that it will give you.

Another thing that makes Pilates mat exercise differs from the others is that it costs less. All you need to get is the Pilates mat, so there is no need for any expensive or heavy equipment which would occupy a lot of space in your home. On the other hand, you should not attempt to do things on your own, without the proper guidance, for you might end up hurting yourself if you don’t do the exercises properly. Exercise is very good to one’s health, but only if it is done the correct way.

In order to ensure safety, you should find a Pilates instructor. It is up to you whether you want a personal instructor, who can direct you step by step, or just a video that will teach you to do things on your own. Upon choosing an instructor, however, you should make sure that you get someone who is qualified and competent in doing Pilates mat classes.

Having stated this, if you still cannot decide whether to get a video or a real instructor, then you should compare the benefits of each. For one, a real instructor can always tell you if you are doing well or if there is something wrong with your body position when you do the exercises. Also, your personal instructor can provide you with a specialized Pilates mat exercise that will match your body needs. However, this choice will be costly given the fact that you have to pay your instructor for each class. Moreover, it may be inconvenient if you have to attend classes that are far from home or at inconvenient times.

While if you choose the video, you will be spared from embarrassment if you do not like others watching you do the Pilates mat exercises. Furthermore, you can do the exercises anytime during your free time without needing to schedule a class. Also, you can share the video with your friends so you can do the Pilates mat exercises together.

A Look at ATV History

Monday 26 May 2008 @ 10:25 am

ATVs, or all terrain vehicles, have been popular vehicles over the years. ATV history is especially interesting in that these vehicles have evolved from vehicles used in the most remote parts of Japan to vehicles that are popular today for recreation.

The first ATVs came in Japan as a means of getting through the tough and remote farmlands of the country. The muddy condition of the roads had originally made it difficult to navigate through these lands, and this was especially the case during spring thaws. The three-wheeled ATV was developed as a means of getting through these tough roads. These were found to be very viable in that they were less expensive than farm vehicles that were larger and could be easily damaged.

Over time the Japanese found that these could easily be made commercially for others. In the early 1970s ATV vehicles became available for sale in North America. Honda, which was already famous for making various great motorcycles, started to make ATVs for commercial use. Among one of the most famous ATV vehicles used by Honda for sale was the US90. This was one of the most famous ATV vehicles in that it has been used for not only recreational use but also for business use.

What has made the ATV so popular over history is that it is less expensive to operate than other vehicles that are for off-road use like a truck or tractor. During the gas shortage of the 1970s this made ATVs incredibly popular. Also, ATVs could be used over any types of terrain.

There were concerns about ATVs early on in ATV history. Tires could have easily punctured on tough terrain. Also, tires could not be repaired. In 1975 the tires were improved on the ATV model in that steel hubs were added to the tires and stronger fabrics were used for tire manufacturing.

In the 1980s ATVs became used for utility purposes and as racing vehicles. In fact, ATV usage doubled over the course of the decade. Another of the more famous ATV vehicles was formed in 1988 by Honda in the FourTrax 300. The FourTrax 300 4×4 was also developed by Honda. A fourth wheel was added to the vehicle and more power was added to the vehicle as a result.

Also on the FourTrax there was a four stroke single cylinder engine that allows for a five speed transmission. A drive shaft that is maintenance free was also formed. Another low gear was added so that the vehicle could be used to transport heavier objects.

ATV history is still evolving to this day. There have been all sorts of famous ATV vehicles that have been benchmarks for process with this form of transportation. The biggest thing about this though is that ATVs have become great for not only work sites but also for recreation.

Sail the Caribbean Seas on a Trinidad Cruise

Monday 26 May 2008 @ 10:19 am

Hop aboard one of the many Trinidad cruises and set sail along the Caribbean seas. Trinidad cruises offer you another view of this mesmerizing island, and the voyage is guaranteed to be as enchanting as the many ports of call.

The island’s southern part is at a distance of seven miles from Venezuela, making it one of the least frequented ports of call for any of Trinidad cruises. The other ports that are strewn around the Caribbean are more popular destinations. To keep up with the ever-increasing tourists that visit Trinidad more and more ships have started plying cruises. Increasing competition between the different cruise companies mean each one has lots of exciting offers and interesting agendas. Many cruises dock at the capital city, Port of Spain, where tourists can find lots of modern amenities and commercial establishments as well as financial institutions.

Windjammer and Windstar Cruises, Seabourn Cruises, Saga Cruises, Princess Cruises, Peter Deilmann Cruises, Ocean Village Cruises, Holland America and Fred Olsen Cruises are just some of the companies offering Trinidad cruises. Each one of these cruise companies has something different to offer, giving you a wide selection of cruises to choose from. The sizes of ships and the passenger capacities are different as well as their choice of itineraries and on-board entertainment. The more exclusive cruises offer smaller-sized vessels and substantial staff on board to cater to just a few individuals. Larger ships are capable of accommodating thousands of cruise-goers.

If you plan on going on a Trinidad cruise, before you put down the money for your ticket you should take into consideration the ship’s size and also the exclusivity that it offers. Decide whether you want to join thousands of other holiday-makers on a larger ship, or whether you’d like the privacy that smaller vessels offer. Also look into the ratio of the people on board to the staff. If there is too few staff to look after a considerable amount of people, you can expect that the service will not be of high quality.

Besides checking out the size of the vessel and its passenger capacity, you should also ask the booking company about the type of voyage you can expect and how much it would cost you. Some cruse companies offer specialty packages. These are aimed at groups of passengers who have certain requirements and have a specific purpose to taking the cruise. You should take a good look at the itinerary so you know which ports the ship will be docking at during your cruise. This way, before going you can attempt to learn some more of the ports that you will be visiting and when you land there you have a pretty good idea of what you want to see or do at that port.

Don’t even consider staying aboard the vessel when it has docked at a port. It’s boring and an utter waste of time and opportunity. Some of the islands surrounding Trinidad are breathtakingly impressive and you should make the most of your cruise and discover the beauty of the place.

Discount Vitamins

Monday 26 May 2008 @ 8:58 am

Instead of paying full price for the vitamins and supplements you need, you can always save a bit of money and go with discount vitamins. There are several ways to find vitamins on discount, with the most common way being sales at your local nutrition store. Even though this is the most common way to find discount vitamins, it can also be one of the hardest ways to find the vitamins you need.

When local nutrition stores have discount sales, they normally have a limited supply of the vitamins that have on sale. Once they have been sold, that is normally the end of that particular vitamin being offered at discount price for the duration of the sale. Other times, the time frame of the sale may make it hard to get to the store. If you don’t know about the sale in advance, it may conflict with your schedule and you miss out on it.

Many stores that are going to be having discount vitamin sales will run coupons and fliers in local papers and magazines. The Sunday paper for instance, is always full of magazines and coupons, which is normally where they advertise the sales. Even though there may be a lot of advertisements found in the Sunday paper, it is normally where you find the best deals. If you spend some time going through the advertisements, you can normally find some great sales, including sales at your local nutrition store.

Another great way to get discount vitamins is buy them in bulk. A lot of people underestimate buying bulk, as they don’t understand just how great this can be. If you buy bulk at your local nutrition store, you are more than likely going to get a great deal. Even though your local store may be offering discount vitamins through a sale, buying bulk is sometimes cheaper than even their best sales.

The reason for this, is the fact that bulk purchases off the best possible prices on discount vitamins. If you are looking to take certain vitamins on a frequent or daily basis, buying in bulk may be the best decision. If you buy vitamin A or vitamin C in bulk, you can get it at a great price with enough of a supply to last you for a long time. When buying in bulk, you’ll get a great price and enough of the vitamin to keep you from going back to the store for quite a while.

If you buy in bulk, you should make sure that you can use the vitamins before the expiration date expires. There are many vitamins out there that have expiration dates, after which they must be discarded if they aren’t used. Even though buying in bulk is always the preferred way to buy your discount vitamins, you should make sure that you can use the vitamins before they expire. You should never feel pressured or even tempted to buy in bulk unless you know for sure you can use all of the vitamins.

With many options available to you, discount vitamins are the ideal purchase to get the vitamins and supplements you need. Millions of us all across the United States take vitamins on a daily basis, making them a sound investment. Even though you can buy vitamins on sale at your local nutrition store or online, buying bulk is always the best way to make your purchase. You can get a great price on your vitamins - and have more than enough to keep you going for a long time.

A Travel to Jamaica First Aid Kit

Monday 26 May 2008 @ 7:28 am

When traveling abroad it’s usually wise to take with you a basic first aid kit ?nothing fancy, just a tin with a few bits and pieces that can help you out if you have an accident and need a temporary bandage or pain killer until you can locate where the nearest source of medical attention is. If you are traveling to Jamaica, or anywhere else in the Caribbean there are some other things that it might be useful to carry with you.

Some form of aspirin/Tylenol to help reduce fever or relieve headaches ?or muscle strains from sports your body is unaccustomed to. If you know that you intend to take part in water sports or new activities you may want to consider a pain relieving cream (or spray if you can find one that isn’s aerosol based ?airline regulations apply here!).

An anti-bacterial cream to deal with any grazes or cuts that you may get taking part in activities, or even just walking on the beach if you stand on a sharp shell.

Hay fever medication ?even if you aren’t known to suffer from hay fever, putting a packet of anti-histamines in your first aid box is just insurance against you finding out that you are allergic to a certain type of pollen ?and it’s found in Jamaica!

Insect repellent! Anything that contains DEET should work fine. Pack this close to the top of the first aid kit ?and also carry one in your on-flight luggage in case it’s a while before you get your bags once you arrive in Jamaica!

Sun block ?again this should be a spare for the one you have in your on-fight luggage.

Anti-diarrhea medication. As with the hay fever medication, you probably won’t need it but it’s better to take it and not use it, than not to take it and need it!

Bandage, and plasters for cuts and sprains. Take the one size fits all?variety so that it doesn’t matter where you hurt, your bandage or plaster will fit!

Thermometer ?even one of those little forehead strips that you can get for kids to check for fevers will be good enough to tell you if you’re got a temperature or you’re just a little unaccustomed to the tropical heat!

You should also pack any prescription medication you take, along with any syringes you need for taking it. Mark the prescription medication carefully, and include the prescribing doctor’s name in case you are questioned over it at customs and immigration. Always carry two sets of prescribed medication, one in your carry-on luggage and one in the checked luggage so that you are sure that even if one set goes missing, you have a back-up.

Taking a first aid box on your Jamaica vacation isn’t planning for the worst, it’s providing insurance. You pay for it and you don’t intend to have to use it ?but it’s just good to know that it’s there just in case!
